Verb. Past tenses II
Perfect (Present Perfect)
The perfect is composed of the present form of the verb olema + -nud participle.
The negative forms of the perfect are composed of ei + ole + -nud participle. The negative forms are not conjugated. E.g. Me ei ole seda filmi vaadanud.
The perfect is used to denote:1) date of birth, or origin of phenomena and things, e.g. Ta on sündinud 1970. aastal.2) extended, recurring activity, e.g. Me oleme teda sageli külastanud.3) activity that has started in the past and will continue in the future, e.g. Olen teda kaua oodanud ja ootan veel.4) activity that has started in the past and is still in progress, e.g. Ma olen töötanud siin juba viis aastat.
Pluperfect (Past Perfect)
The pluperfect is composed of the imperfect form of the verb olema and the -nud participle of the verb.
The negative forms of the pluperfect are composed of ei + olnud + -nud participle of the verb.E.g. Sõber rääkis, et ta ei olnud saanud uut tööd.
The pluperfect is used to indicate activity in the past that precedes another activity that also occurred in the past and is indicated by the imperfect tense.E.g. Kui olime töö lõpetanud, läksime koju.
